You don't specify how you are making the ADO connection... are you using the ODBC bridge (slow) with an Oracle ODBC driver or the Oracle provided OLEDB provider (faster) or a 3rd party OLEDB provider?
Better yet, have you considered using Oracle Objects for OLE (OO4O -- fastest solution).
Try and ODBC trace (if you are using the ODBC bridge) and see where the time is getting eaten up.
