WinA&D Delivers Enhanced Data Models
Model Based SQL Code Generation for RDBMS Products.

Placitas, NM ? September 18, 2000 - Excel Software today dramatically extended the data modeling and SQL code generation capabilities in its popular WinA&D modeling tool. Database designers can quickly create logical and physical data models and generate the SQL schema code for popular RDBMS products including Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, Sybase, Informix and InterBase. Rich data models can represent tables, views, constraints, assertions, triggers, indexes, procedures and other SQL elements. Other general enhancements included diagram scaling from 25% to 200%, increased dictionary capacity and a convenient Notes window for attaching notes to diagram objects in any type of model.

WinA&D is a comprehensive tool for system analysis, requirement specifications, software design and code generation. Popular modeling notations and supported methods include object-oriented analysis and design with UML or structured analysis and design using Yourdon/DeMarco. Information Engineering (Martin) style data models are used to develop information systems. Model editors are complimented with verification and balancing reports, code generation, reengineering capabilities and scriptable HTML reporting features.

Logical data models often use expressive names and various presentation options to communicate information between developers. The names of database objects like tables, views and columns are typically more constrained and cryptic in physical data models due to the RDBMS limitations and the legacy systems that they represent. WinA&D allows designers to easily toggle between logical and physical models and show entities (tables) with full attribute lists, primary and foreign keys only or customized to show specific attributes.

WinA&D’s namespace concept now supports data modeling, SQL code generation and reengineering of different database schemas. Namespaces simplify team development, enable powerful organizational and reporting tools, partition complex systems and map design elements to specific SQL schemas.

Generated SQL can be customized to include primary, foreign and alternate key constraints and check constraints in either CREATE TABLE or ALTER TABLE statements. Other SQL elements can selectively generate DROP or CREATE statements and RDBMS specific triggers, procedures, functions and methods.

WinA&D runs on Windows 95, 98, NT or 2000. It comes in four editions; Standard $495, Desktop $1295, Educational $845 and Developer $1995. Data models created in earlier versions are automatically converted to use the enhanced data modeling features in the Desktop, Educational and Developer editions.
