Problems with Oracle Native Driver in ColdFusion

I'm trying to convert a ColdFusion application developed for SQL Server to Oracle. When I run a select query on a certain field in a certain table, ColdFusion throws a runtime error. It appears to be a ColdFusion server problem because I can acces the field fine with Oracle client tools. When I check the datasource using ColdFusion RDS it says that the field type is CLOB 4000. Has anyone ever experienced this error and does anyone have any suggestions.
