connecting with jdeveloper applet to oracle db

I have wrote an applet in jdeveloper2 to connect to the database and retrieve some informations. As I was testing my applet from jdeveloper everything worked ok but when I deployed it to the jar file and tried to use it within my html page, it was unable to connect to the database.Why?
