Oracle traditionally has a much steeper learning curve than a desktop database such as Access. The tools that Microsoft provides in their Access environment are friendly and interoperate well with the rest of their solutions. Don't except this yet with Oracle. Development tools and architectures for deploying Oracle based solutions are many and have varying degrees of features and maturity.

That being said the Oracle documentation is actually exceptional - particularly the Concepts book Van mentioned. For a slightly gentler introduction, the Oracle 8i for Beginners book is not a bad choice. It's a little less in depth than the Oracle docs, but presents a wider selection of Oracle fundamentals, options and tools.

What is it that you want to use Oracle for? Client/Server (Access like), Web-based development, or something else? Having a focus to your education with a system as complete and wide ranging as Oracle can be helpful.
