hey man,
i am a beginner in oracle etc.
but think of it - when windows came out did you think twice
because your staff might "...lose their dos skills.." ?
I worked now during my sql-pl/sql course with free toad.
it is good - but has bugs and disadvantages that can be overcome by using
sql*plus which does not have the windows complications because of it's
lightness.
the greatest advantage that I found is - you can see and edit/delete
db objects easily - both independent (procs/funcs) and dependent(triggers) -
and table attributes (constraints etc).
secondly - you write and see your syntax/variables/etc in different colors
which gives a good readability of code.
3rd - you can create script of object creation (procs/funcs) very easily
without writing time after time the same syntax.
all these and more save lotsa time and make your organization more efficient
and cost effective.
