images in webdb

Hi,
i'm using webdb for an employee application. We want to show pictures of
our employees on a report.
This works fine as long as the pictures are stored on a harddrive on the
webdb server:
for example c:\orant\webdb\images which maps to the virual directory /images/
when i map the virtual directory to a network drive (i:\pictures\lia_pictures\) I get a broken picture icon.
Do I need special rights (read, write etc.) on the network drive and under which username? (the oracle user with which I log on to webdb? the NT user of the machine on which the database is started?, webdb?)
