Hi,
I have the same problem. It's due to winsock v.2 (8.0.4 client only run on winsock v1.x).
Oracle Support told me that the 8.0.4.4 (or 8.0.4.0.4 ??) patch would correct the problem.
If the problem occur with a win95/Winsock2 client, you'll have to downgrade to winsock1.x
(impossible with win98 because winsock2 is on kernel level).
