Dear all,

The problem described here could be a PeopleSoft related problem, but could also be a Oracle Net8 related problem. Therefore I'll post this here as well. I hope someone has any ideas..

---

We are currently in the process of
implementing PeopleSoft HRM and we're
encountering some serious performance
problems (either in 2 or 3 tier configuration)
when using Net8 over TCP/IP.

There is an overall bad performance when
using (Oracle)Net8 over TCP/IP. However, when we
configure Net8 to use the Named Pipes protocol
instead of TCP/IP, some actions take about 1/50th(!)
of the time it takes to execute the same SQL over
Net8/TCPIP !!?!?

All products have been initially installed
using default options. No performance tuning
on the database has been done (except for
enlarging the Oracle SGA).

This is our setup :

hardware :

- 2 Compaq Proliant 1600/1Gb/2x10Gb/2x400Mhz PII
(application server/database server)
- 12x PII-400Mhz/64Mb workstations
- 16Mb token ring LAN
software :
- Windows NT 4.0 SP3 PDC
- Windows NT 4.0 SP3 Workstation
- Oracle 8.0.5 server/Net8
- PeopleTools 7.52.10
- PeopleSoft HRM 7.50
Does anyone have any idea how to improve the performance over TCP/IP ? Regards, Simon Verzijl -----------== Posted via Deja News, The Discussion Network ==---------- http://www.dejanews.com/ Search, Read, Discuss, or Start Your Own
