Sql*Loader problem loading LONG values

I am having a problem using Sql*Loader to import text values > 4000 characters into LONG
fields. If I try to change the length specification in the control file to accommodate longer values, I get an error indicating that I can only bind LONG value into a column defined as LONG. The column in the database IS defined as LONG. My control file entry for these fields looks like this:
