I can't get "describe tablename" to work in Oraperl

[Quoted] Has anyone successfully used "describe tablename" with Oraperl. I have been trying it over and over but I get this type of error:

> ORA-00900: invalid SQL statement (DBD ERROR: OCIStmtExecute) at
>Oraperl.pl line 30.
> main::SendSQL('describe profiles') called at oratest.pl line 10

I have tried most of my other SQL commands and they seem to work fine. This table does exist and I have access to it. But this one command doesn't work through Oraperl but it does work using SQLplus.

Any ideas?
