little red arrows

A frustrated newbie - this IS hard work. One small point, in the Object Navigator -> Database -> Item -> A push button
on a demo database I have there are little red arrows on the Push Button icon rather like "links" in Windows Explorer. Can someone put me out of my misery and tell me what they mean and how can I make/delete them...
