Problem with the Host Command Please Help!

Hi all,
I am trying to pass a dynamic where clause to my report from a form. The form allows the user to enter 6 criteria multiple times and upon pressing a button the where clause gets built. Next I want to pass the where clause to a report using the HOST command. (Run+AF8-Product limits the value passed to 255 characters, which is too small). When trying to invoke HOST with the parameter it either does not run or gives an error stating that a device attached to the system is not functioning.
Anyone out there have any clues/suggestions about why this won't work?
