PL/SQL output for reports

Hi,
I'd really like to produce some reports using pl/sql (oracle 7.3). I'm just wondering is there any way of producing "spool" files etc. using a pl/sql program. I've been trying the command dbms_output.put without any sucess and would welcome any help.
