If you have access to a fast internet connection, cruise right onto Oracle's site, and download the evaluation copy of Personal Oracle Lite, for Windows 95. This should give you a feel for the basics of SQL*PLUS, Table design etc. You may want to get hold of a book on PL/SQL, if you want to get into designing sequential code that will live in the database.

I can also recommend Oracle - The Complete Reference, as a good solid guide to the fundamentals of the database. This little lot should get you started.
