Replication Server Usage in Production

Has anyone used the Oracle Replication Server (synchronous or asynchronous) in a production environment? How easy was it to configure? How well has it worked?

The big question - has there ever been a production failure which relied on your backup site that was maintained by Rep Server? How easy was it to transition over to the backup environment?

If you have used both synchronous and asynch, what were the big advantages/disadvantages between using the two different methodologies?
