No, this is an un-moderated newsgroup, which means anyone can post anything they like to it :(

Back in the good old days such things as netiquette were observed whereby you would only post something that was relevant to the newsgroup. Commercialisation of the internet has helped make that a thing of the past.

There are certain types of automated programs that can go through and cancel obvious spams, but catching everything would be almost impossible.

You could set up a kill file to ignore certain types of messages - from certain people or certain subject lines, etc, etc. Any halfway decent newsreader offers such facilities.

You have to be careful when tracking down the site that original posted an article. Spammers can add certain lines to their post and/or alter various attributes. It's always best to look at the *full* header text of a message.

In an attempt to reduce junk email I use an invalid 'From' address.
My correct email address can can be determined by replacing 'not.valid' with 
'value.net'
