Sylvain Faust (SFI) Promotes Executive Vice President From Within, Adds New Vice Presidents Executives Help SFI Manage, Respond to Growth HULL, Quebec - March 7, 1997 - SFI today announced that Jim Rawlings hasjoined
the company as vice president of sales and marketing and John Kunar has joined as vice
president, product development. Michael McPhee, who had been vice president of sales and
marketing, has been promoted to executive vice president of business development. The
company has been experiencing steady growth and has broadened its organizational structure by
adding Rawlings and Kunar to the management team to help respond to it.
"With the strong growth taking place at SFI, it is important that we have
executives of the
caliber of Jim Rawlings, Mike McPhee and John Kunar leading the company
into the future,"
said Sylvain Faust, president of SFI. "These individuals will complement
our management team
and will help position SFI for its launch of SQL-Optimizer™ and beyond,
growing the company
even more in the process."
In Jim Rawlings' new role at SFI, he is responsible for all sales and
marketing initiatives
aimed at ensuring the continued sales growth of SFI's core products -
SQL-Programmer® and
SQL-Sombrero™ - and to oversee the launch of the new SQL-Optimizer product
line.
Responsibilities for the launch include development of distribution
channels, direct sales,
strategic alliances, advertising and customer care programs.
Rawlings has more than 20 years experience in the high-technology sector.
Prior to
joining SFI, he was with Oracle Corp. where he held senior strategic sales,
marketing and global
business-development positions. Before that, he was employed by Control
Data and Canada
Systems Group. Rawlings has managed teams responsible for the sales and
development of
relational database technology for large enterprisewide applications and
has also overseen global
business development and product launches for strategic database products
such as the Oracle7
Spatial Data Option. Jim Rawlings holds a bachelor's of science degree
from Queen's University
at Kingston, Canada.
As executive vice president of business development, Mike McPhee is
responsible for
business development, strategic planning and special projects management,
which includes
overseeing technology acquisitions and corporate financing (venture
capital). In his new role, he
will act as the primary business contact for key industry vendors, clients
and government contacts.
McPhee is one of the original principals of SFI. He has more than 13
years experience
in the high-technology industry, which includes positions held in the areas
of senior strategic sales,
marketing and business development. He holds a bachelor's of commerce
honors degree, with
an emphasis in marketing and international business, from the University of
Ottawa at Ottawa,
Canada.
John Kunar, vice president of product development, brings more than 19
years
experience as a computer systems professional to SFI. He has extensive
experience in
software, applications and communications development in the public and
private sectors,
nationally and internationally. Kunar, who was previously with TRW U.S.A.,
has served in
various management capacities as program, proposal, projects and global
business manager
for several large North american technology companies, and has held several
executive
positions in MIS and technology companies such as TRW Canada, Canada Post
Corp.,
the Workman's Compensation Board and Canada Life.
At SFI, Kunar is responsible for all new software development, maintenance
and
technical support of its product lines, which are distributed worldwide.
Mr. Kunar's
experience in software development and enterprisewide applications, coupled
with his
knowledge in database technologies, will be an asset to SFI's core
products,
SQL-Programmer and SQL-Sombrero. This experience will also help enhance
the
effectiveness of future products, such as SQL-Optimizer. John Kunar is a
graduate of
York University and holds several post-graduate designations in computer
science,
including a master's of science degree in computer engineering from York.
