If you are talking about creating a flat file from a database table you could use a SQL*Plus script such as the following :-

SET NEWPAGE 0
SET SPACE 0
SET LINESIZE 80
SET PAGESIZE 0
SET ECHO OFF
SET FEEDBACK OFF
SET HEADING OFF
SPOOL output.data
SELECT COLUMN1, COLUMN2, COLUMN3
FROM TABLE
WHERE ......
SPOOL OFF Received on Tue Nov 26 1996 - 00:00:00 CET
