Even "if" on a given system the performance difference is hard to find significant changes between ... there are differences in failure scenarios.

Two disks in a RAID 5 group failing "reasonably close together" gives you an outage. In a RAID 10 group that also can happen but it depends on which "2nd" disk it is ... so the odds are lower.

Moving some of your databases to RAID 5 makes a lot of sense for many environments. My test and dev databases are setup like that. OLTP production ... no thanks. Received on Tue Apr 05 2011 - 18:03:28 CDT
