Your HPUX is much newer then the database release you are planning to patch to. There should be no problems whatsoever but the best thing to do is to get an official opinion from Oracle support. I am a Linux guy, my HP-UX days were a long time ago and ended with HP-UX 11.0

Yes you can. Do you have the client on the same box as the server? You can even upgrade the client to 11g, there will be no problems.
