There is an important reason to respond to the spam folks.

Do spammers care? Amazingly enough about 40% apologize and go away. They are well meaning people who just don't understand usenet and group charter's.

The other 60% is hopeless, that I will grant. But there are people considering spamming, beta tests, see my website, come to my meeting, etc. who see the way the group responds to spammers and choose not to post.

If no one reacts to spamming then it is the equivalent to giving license to the spammers. The communication, clearly is that no one here minds if you post your personal garbage: If you put your personal needs over the needs of the community.

I encourage everyone to respond to spammers. If not here in the group by reporting them to abuse_at_gmail, abuse_at_yahoo, etc. and, if you can, to SpamAssassin and similar organizations.
