Why should we be any less sceptical of Oracle's marketing claims than any other unsubstantiated opinion?

The 3x faster claims I've seen are so vague, how would one even test it? Exactly what does it mean? I've seen emulators for things like PDP's that _are_ faster than the original, which of course were something like 18MHz at best.
