Not bashing; been there, done that:
tried to update my trustworthy Win2000 to XP.
Had a system backup, registry dump, disk copy - the lot.
Ended up reinstalling from scratch on a different disk, because the backup I choose to restore failed to copy over dll's of which never versions (XP, anyone?) were found. After the (automatic!) reboot, nothing worked, and the backup was gone (guess I would not want to try another time - MS already figured that much out, and deleted the backups.)
All in all, I've been without home PC for about two weeks thanks to that @#&^(% MS!
