Personally, I've found that some redundancy in backing up archivelogs has meant the difference between "oh, gee, bad backup, just use another one" and what would've been "oh, oh..." Keeping a few days of arcs around has meant the difference between "oh, just cp some to the standby" and "oh man, now I've gotta dig through backups."

DLT's can really suck at times. Especially with unattended backups that have tapes changed (or not) by many different monkeys.
