hey there,
First of all thanks for the help.
As I have mentioned earlier that the DBA is not aware of Unix at all. She says that she will use some oracle tools to export the data to the new data center.
She wants me to install Oracle 8 on to these systems first and than she will remotely perform the upgrade of the data from Oracle 8.1.7.4 to Oracle 10g release 2.
Once the manual upgrade of the data is done than I beleive I have to install Oracle 10 g release 2 software to the DB servers and than just mount the LUNS or copy the data over to the db servers. There are a lot of other thrid party software and tools that will be extracting data from these db servers.
Most of these server are within the same subnet, but the users accessing data are ofcourse remote users. We are not using any other third company to help us in this quest as the business wants the employees to keep the knowledge and grow their experience.
Let me know if the idea that the DBA has conveyed me sounds good or not.
