Hello!

Please have a look at the following screenshot:

http://server4.pictiger.com/img/652128/computer-games-and-screenshots/w-2-k-oracle-odbc-tns-service-name-trash.php

On that screenshot, I'm logged onto a Windows 2000 Server over Citrix and opened the ODBC Data Sources configuration dialog (I get the same, when I'm directly at the machine and logon). There I double clicked on "Oracle in instantclient10_2" and got the dialog shown on the screenshot. When I expand the list of available TNS Service Names, I only see junk (see screenshot).

Before I started the ODBC configuration of W2k, I downloaded

instantclient-basic-win32-10.2.0.2-20060508.zip,
instantclient-odbc-win32-10.2.0.2-20060508.zip and
instantclient-sqlplus-win32-10.2.0.2-20060508.zip. I unzipped all of
those files to C:\Oracle\instantclient_10_2. I added some environment variables *before* I did anything else:

ORACLE_HOME=C:\Oracle\instantclient_10_2 TNS_ADMIN=C:\Oracle\instantclient_10_2\network\admin\tnsnames.ora

To PATH, I added: C:\Oracle\instantclient_10_2

All of those env. vars. are System variables.

C:\Oracle\instantclient_10_2\network\admin\tnsnames.ora contains only this:

ORABDE.EUROPE.DELPHIAUTO.NET =
  (DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =

      (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 10.233.30.8)(PORT = 1521))     )

(CONNECT_DATA =

      (SERVICE_NAME = orabde.delphi)
    )
  )

There's no other file with the name "tnsnames" on the local harddrives of this system.

After I unzipped the files, added the env. vars. and created the tnsnames.ora file, I ran odbc_install.exe. No error was shown. Afterwards, I rebooted the server (in the night) and this morning, I see what's shown on the screenshot.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks a lot,

Alexander Skwar

Peter Griffin: Oh yeah? Well, according to paragraph 7, sentence 3, word 8 of
the Geneva Convention..."the". So, tough luck, Swanson.
