• That SQL is a standards-based 4GL to ensure portability;
• And that applications issue one, and only one, SQL statement followed immediately by a commit;
• And that locking, load, and internal implementation issues are irrelevant;
• And that SQL is used only to feed a 3GL (.Net and J2EE apps) that will do the actual work.

Which is easily shown, as you say, using Tom Kyte's methods and further detailed in Tom's and Jonathan Lewis' (and other Oak Table members) discussions and documents.
