Thanks Tom. Say, could you recommend someone in North Carolina - or someone willing to travel to North Carolina - who could present on Oracle Spatial? I asked a salesperson at Oracle for leads on a presenter, but got nowhere.

I'm el Presidente of the North Carolina Spatial Database Users Group - http://NCSDUG.ORG - at our first all day event (free admission, free lunch, etc), we had 135 attendees, two separate presentation tracks, 5 presenters, and 2 panel discussions.

I don't know how large the Charlotte group is, but I worked hard to build-up my users group. I think we have over 200 registered members. A turn-out of 135/200 was flattering.

Pretty successful, but it was 100% ESRI / ArcSDE-based. A product some call "mere middleware."

Since we're a vendor-neutral group, I would like someone to present on Oracle Spatial for NCSDUG meeting #2 - which will probably be held in Charlotte or Greensboro in early to mid-September.

Should be interesting, because in ArcSDE 9.2, ESRI is introducing a native Spatial Data type (on the SDE for Oracle platform only) which they claim is faster than Oracle Spatial. SDE 9.2 should be released in late summer / early Fall.

I may have a PostgreSQL / PostGIS person at NCSDUG 2 as well. My only commitment is to whoever has the best spatial database product.

Dana
