Are you using DIRECT=Y compress=N recordlength=65535 for the export? On the imp are you using a large buffer and doing statistics/index building afterwards? Is your shared area an nfs device with a slow/crowded network? Is everyone importing from the shared area at the same time? What kind of shared area is it? Would it be possible for you to come up with an import that runs on the server rather than being routed through these slow clients (or, as hpuxrac suggested, datapump)? What kind of server is it?
