Your assumption is incorrect.

You can use Oracle's TimesTen database as a complte in-memory front-end to the Oracle RDBMS.

Downloads of TimesTen are available at http://otn.oracle.com Under Product Centers click on "More ...." Click on "TimesTen In-Memory Database"
