I have an 8.1.7.0 system on Sun and it shows the full parameter value in the alert log for control_files and rollback_segments. I do not remember having this problem on 8.1.7.4 when we ran it on AIX.

If you query v$parameter in the database, what does the query show the values for these parameters to be? What does v$rollstat show?

If the queries show the right values then maybe it is just a platform specific log message problem rather than an issue that needs patching. Otherwise if might be a platform specific problem you need to talk to support about.
