The maximum size of the db_file_multiblock_read_count parameter is Oracle version and platform port dependend.

On 10gR2 (maybe on R1) Oracle will calculate the optimal size for this parameter and adjust it on the fly if you do not manually set it.

I have seen code posted that will determine the maximum value for a platform but I do not know where I saved it (if I saved it). You might want to search the newgroup archives as I am pretty sure I saw it on either the comp.databases.oracle.server or .misc boards.
