Oops - I was thinking 10g (and esp. ASM) and transportable tablespaces (note 287197.1). Sorry about that.

A similar discussion to this one is in note 560357.994 where they conclude migration (with 9iR2) should be done via exp/imp. (I'd still test the dd.)
