Yup, should've stuck with CPM, too late now. Also should have given Larry the list of SQLCODEs when he asked, too late now.
I don't believe that any vendor alone is powerful enough to dictate the standard.
W.g. Oracle had to implement the OUTER JOIN syntax. Microsoft had to implement recursion using WITH.
IBM had to implement IDENTITY and SEQUENCEs watching closely the precedents set by Oracle and MS/Sybase. Call it convergence if you wish. Bt no vendor owns the center of gravity in this game. Not as long as they try to steal each others marketshare ;-)
