Errm whilst I think GreyBeard's analysis is correct consider this.

The mythical junior dba carries out an unfortunate update at 2:30pm. At 3pm it is brought to your attention that things are up the proverbial creek.
You ask the junior guy when he carried out his update. He says 2pm. You flashback the database to 2pm.
You discover your error. How do you recover?

the answer, apparently, is by issuing a second flashback command. to a future time from the database timestamp of 2pm.

So you can travel into the future, but only after you've already been there.
