hi,

during some RMAN test I noticed that RMAN decided to apply several days of archived redo logs instead of recovering a recent incremental backup.
Does anybody have a clue why?

  1. backup as compressed backupset incremental level 0 cumulative database;
    <DB activity>
  2. backup as compressed backupset incremental level 1 cumulative database;
    <couple of days DB activity>
  3. backup as compressed backupset incremental level 1 cumulative database;
  4. Duplicate DB (started shortly after step 3)

RMAN restored the full backup (1), then recovered the first incremental backup (2) and then it applied all archived redo logs since then. Why didn't it restore the last incremental backup instead of an old one?

Oracle 10.1.0.3
HP-UX 11i

Thanks in advance for any pointers
