8i and 9i rman catalog databases

Guys,

If you have 9i and 8i databases do you need 2 rman catalog databases? Because when I run a backup for 8i database (rman catalog is 9i) it throws the error as below. This suggests to me that the export stage is failing due the current Oracle home being Oracle 8 rather than 9 and, consequently, not having the libraries necessary for RMANCAT's "exp" command to link to.
This is rather annoying...

Any suggestions?

We use OS-HPUX 11.00 and omniback data protector
