Hi guys,

I am trying to help my customer with setting a backup environment for Oracle 8.1.7.0.0 on OpenVMS 7.3-1 with RMAN and HP Data Protector.

There are few things which make me a little confused and I would be happy if you can give me couple hints.

First of all, I have to tell that I am not experienced in work with OpenVMS.

  1. SysAdmin told me that it is not possible to allocate more than one channel for RMAN. Is it true?
  2. Also, he uses sbt_tape instead disk type, because he claims that disk type does not work. What is your experience?
  3. Is "Test disk API" supported in production environment?

Data protector (DP) does not have an integration with Oracle on OpenVMS. My plan is to use RMAN for backup Oracle to the disk and then backup that disk with DP.

I tried to make few backups (full database, datafiles, controlfiles, archive logs) and also tried to use few restore scenarios and it worked.

What do you think about that? Can we count on that or we were just lucky?

Thanks in advance and best regards,
Mario. Received on Sun Sep 19 2004 - 15:25:48 CDT
