nah - leave that one alone (xdb).
add another dispatcher to the init.ora file (assuming that you are not using an spfile.ora file).

<lazydba>
one way to do this is to use dbca to create a db with shared servers, and copy the parameters over.
</laxydba>

It just so happens that I have the config files for a 9.2 on win32 mts setup for use with a locked down vpn - on the laptop.

this is mogrified to obfuscate the config used. I believe that it was entered with '\' used to continue the lines, but I don't recall right now. Its very verbose, so that fixed, known ports would be used. If you don't need to specify the ports, you could probably get away with:

dispatchers=(ADDRESS=(protocol=TCP))

I used 2 dispatchers in the event that one went down - you can use more or less.

bdbafh_at_mydb> show parameter dispatcher
NAME_COL_PLUS_SHOW_PARAM

TYPE

VALUE_COL_PLUS_SHOW_PARAM

dispatchers
string
(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=mysvr.mydomain.com)(PORT=1234)(LISTENER=listener7 .mydomain.com)(SERVICE_NAME=mydb.mydomain.com)(DIS=1)), (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=
TCP)(HOST=mysvr.mydomain.com)(PORT=1235)(LISTENER=listener7.mydomain.com)( SERVICE_NAME=mydb.mydomain.com)(DIS=1))

hth.
