Pat, since you say the code works via SQLPlus the problem is probably Java related and as Sybrand pointed out 1891 is probably the key error. By any chance does this code reference an Oracle timestamp column? The reason I ask is that I have seen reports (posts on metalink) related to Java not being able to deal with this Oracle datatype.
