Bhaskar,

The upgrade could be done in multiple ways :

If the OS is getting changed between the two releases , then export data out of the 817 database and
import data into the 92 database.

However if the platforms remain identical : a) You could use the "Database Upgrade Assistant" ( dbua ) to perform this upgrade automatically
b) Or I would prefer to perform these steps manually by running scripts.

There are a lot of considerations that need to be taken care of and you would be better off
reading the Migration Manual { Oracle9i Database Migration Release 2 (9.2) -- Chapter 5 }
before you attempt any of the steps.
