Thanks a lot.

I am using alter session set nls_date_format= 'mm/dd/yyyy' and did insert value '05/24/2004' into date field without using to_date and sysdate function.

I am just wondering how can I change NLS_DATE_FORMATE permanently. I did change init.ora file and restart the database but it does work.
