Howard has created some excellent 'install Oracle on Linux' documents. These are relevant because he describes what in Linux terms and why in general terms.

My assumption is that you are an intelligent person and will therefore be able to look past the forward-slash, back-slash war (reminicient of Gulliver's Travels and the little vs big endian cultures) and take the Windows-based and even the RedHat-based documents as a valuable learning tool.
