When Sun Microsystems announced that they would not longer be supporting Solaris on Intel, Oracle Corp decided not to support the dead platform. So Oracle 9i was not certified for Solaris on x86. Customer outcry towards Sun made them rethink the decision. So Solaris on x86 was alive and kicking, but it was too late for Oracle 9i on Solaris on Intel. IIRC, Oracle did decide to support this for 10g, but they don't have it out yet.
