Another option is to edit the file /etc/redhat-release and change the current line to the following:

Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 3 (Taroon)

Copy the old file first and then you can replace it after the installation. The advantage to doing it this way is that all of the other prerequisites checks will still happen before the installation begins. I just did this on RedHat 9 and its installed OK.
