Go to ORACLE_HOME/network/agent.
Delete all .q and services.ora files.
Try again.

The agent works fine on RH9, so it's definitely something you've done or haven't done, not intrinsic to running on RH9. However, if you don't do the original install right, then you get an error around about the time that the install wants to link the stuff that relates to the agent. If you clicked 'Ignore' there, you are stuffed and only a good re-install is going to help you. (Well, you could always try relinking, I suppose). See www.dizwell.com for a paper on how, precisely, to install onto RH9.
