You are correct. I do not have a CS degree. I'm old enough that when I went to school such a degreee didn't exist.

But back then all computing was mainframe and IT procedures were rigorous and we got our education none-the-less.

In the current environment where every 16 year old can grab VB or MS Access and proclaim their ability to develop code ... the line is blurred and I think the degree is essential.

Try this question on your co-workers that work with databases.

"How should you resolve a many-to-many relationship?" How many do you think can answer this elementary question correctly? I can tell you what percentage can of those to which it has been asked in job interviews. And it is a very small number.
