Remember what you were saying about "qualified professionals" and "experienced DBAs who know what they're doing" versus "trained monkeys"?

A qualified DBA who knows what he's doing would know the difference between

alter tablespace X coalesce;

and

alter index xxx coalesce.

The fact that Richard mentions coalescing of indexes (to improve leaf-node usage rates) and you reply by talking about Locally Managed Tablespaces (which certainly don't need coalescing to cure fragmentation) means you don't know or realise there's a difference.

The conclusion to be drawn...?

I guess you can work it out.
