In case you haven't read about it yet, Oracle has postponed de-support of Oracle Server 8i Release 3 for some (most) platforms.

Why they would annouce that on 08-Oct-2003 when de-support was supposed to have taken effect on 31-Dec-2003 is completely beyond me. This should have been announced this at least 3 months ago. What were they thinking?

If you hadn't yet migrated to 9.2, this is good news. If you were planning on migrating to 9.2, and you haven't yet tested your code against the 9.2.0.4 CBO, do so, and file your bug reports. Its not the same animal as the 8.1.7 CBO. I guess that you can now take your time.

If seems that one possible outcome of this announcement would be to skip 9.2 entirely and just deploy on 10g when it stabilizes.

or you could just keep using 7.3.4.5.2 :D
